DRM036: Deadly Vanity

Deep From Within The Power Room: Deadly Vanity Delivers Our 36th DRM Mixtape.

Toronto's up and coming deep house selectors Deadly Vanity - - Joel Waz and James Mac - - have made you a sexy deep grinding mix fit for dry summer days or humid sweaty nights... it would even sound good in a complex powder room senario like the one above.

Our 36th Deeply Rooted Mix comes from this deadly local duo who are on the rise right now and continue to make deep analog noises that have been shaking the depths of the underground house music scene here in Toronto.  After a couple of years of hard work, it seems that the duo has finally begun solidifying their presence among many of Toronto's local favourites and upcoming crews.  The boys run a weekly radio show on dubplate.fm every other wednesday called Dead Air, and can be followed through their soundcloud page which will give you a more in depth taste of what these two techno troublemakers like to mix.  Dick Diamond's really likes these cat's because they "don't wait for people to put them on, they make the f*@king moves themselves" by promoting their music feverishly and throw their own events which always draw at least a small, motivated crowd every time.

The mix they pitched us is an infectous blend of contemporary deep house sounds set at a grinding pace capable of making some asses shake, regardless of size. The duo has been having some good luck lately grabbing the attention of one of Toronto's most popular Deep House peddlers - - Jeff Button - - a often busy and highly booked veteran dj known as the curator of the popular to "DigDeep" Podcast series and a main man in the Modern Love Affair event series.  This well deserved attention landed them in the spotlight as they did a cool guest mix for the successful podcast series, which - - as far as I know - - lies among the 100 most popular podcasts in the world.

So, with that ladies and gents, we would like to present to you Deadly Vanity's exclusive Deeply Rooted Mix.  Enjoy!

Easy Mandeezy

Mr. Mandelephant aka Jeremy Sean aka Jeremy Mandel. Man made a nice mix for BlogTO, check it out!

Mr. Mandelephant aka Jeremy Sean put together this nice little mix for Toronto's BlogTO website along with a personal interview.  I used to roll with Jeremy back in our pluggednotthugged.com days, where I first got my blogging experience prior to leaving in order to start my own project The Deep North.  Jeremy remains an active player in the Toronto scene, running his metronautix project and playing the Major Rager and Loose Hips parties.  You can learn more about him and grab the tracklisting by reading the interview here.  Thanks for the props Jeremy.

DRM034: SHEMCA

DRM035 comes from our Toronto homie SHEMCA, a little known DJ and Producer who loves house music and hip hop more than you do. Well we don't know that, but we're saying it anyways.DRM034 comes from our hometown of Toronto, a place that seems to be bubbling with new talent and a renewed interest in house and techno music.  It's easy to get lost in the storm and forget about us little guys on the come up, including the never-frowning character known to many simply as Shem, :) (aka Colon Bracket) or by his official production/DJing handle Shemca.  It's not even summer yet, but one look at Shem's Soundcloud will be enough proof that this cat has the heat levels set to swelter.

Max the Fax told me that he nearly blew a gasket when he saw Shem spin a firestorm at the end of last summer during an outdoor party put together by Metronautix founder Jeremy Mandel (aka Mr. Mandelephant or more recently Jeremy Sean).  Apparently his set was jammed so tight with firey nuggets that Max forgot about the jaw he dropped on the ground as he stood - - mouth wide open - - stunned like a frightened fawn in the nippley weather that day.  Now I was not there, but I beleive it, and that was what motivated me to ask Shem to submit a DRM mix for The Deep North.  So, here it is folks - - a hearty mix of 23 healthy house heaters packed into a nummy package ready to keep you smiling on this cool Canadian day.  Get those chunklets.

FEAST TIME

The Deep North's resident Sean Roman will be playing at Toronto's esteemed FOOTWORK club alongside heavyweight MANIK on April 28th. The Deep North's Dick Diamonds will be an official host of the night, representing the family for this special event. Click the image to see the event on RA.Sean Roman has been the topic of much buzz all over the internet as he continues to blaze a serious trail through the world of house music after a strong showing in 2011, both as a solo artist and as a member of the trio White Lions.  The talented Toronto producer and Deep North Resident finished his warm-up year (2011) with "Sarah's Song", a big house release for Hot Creations sub-label Hot Waves and a nice remix of Deepchild's track "The Suffering Ones" on Thoughtless Music around the same time.  But this was just the beginning.

Sean Roman - Sarah's Song (Original Mix) >> [BUY IT]

Enter 2012.  Sean Roman decided that taking a breath was not an option and has shown the world that he is going all the way.  The monster-in-making kicked off the new year with his Sinnaman EP on Assembly Records out of the UK - - his second release on the label.  Gate crashing was not enough and the smoke signals continued with Sean's next couple of releases on a pair of Latin American labels which I believe are going to become huge names in the house music industry - - Neim (Mexico) and Molotov21 (Brazil) - - before many people realize they even exist.  His This Thang EP on Neim was simply fantastic, as was his Staring EP - - released about 2 weeks before - - on Molotov21.  Both EPs shot up the best sellers charts across the globe, a trend which I have no doubt will continue.

Sean Roman - Sinnaman (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Sean Roman - How To Get Let Down (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Sean Roman - Staring EP (Preview) >>> [BUY IT]

Killer, I know.  But hold up, hold up.  The mayhem continued yesterday with what could be Sean's highest profile release to date.   Sean fired off a huge package yesterday - - including remixes by Hot Creations heavy hitters MANIK and Waifs and Strays - - for the UK's newest imprint called Feast Records.  Feast is a new label - - "debutant", if you will - - headed by Act Natural boss Jamie Ward and named after the infamous party series of the same name.  Talk about a fucking huge release.  Jamie Ward gets kudos from me on this one, and this EP is sure to make waves given the strong reputation behind all of the names involved in putting this one together.  The release is sure to get an instant boost from MANIK's involvement - - the dude just blew minds with his new release "You Know What it's Like" on Real Tone Records with Burnski and Deep North favorite Gerd.  Fuck off Sean, you bastard.

Sean Roman - Bocuse (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Sean Roman - Moan (Waifs & Strays Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Just joking.  We are throwing it up for our brother Sean Roman, a hard working Canadian artist who will make it to the top - - mark my words - - if he continues to push the limits as he has over the past two years.  The sky is the limit, but unfortunately for the sky, Sean Roman is a god damn intergalactic rocketship powered with boundary-smashing rocket fuel.  Move the fuck out of the way Buzz Lightyear, Sean Roman is coming through.

Burnski & MANIK - You Know What It's Like (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Catch Sean Roman & MANIK @ Footwork on April 28th for the next popular Modern Love Affair event here in Toronto.  The Deep North will be co-hosting the event and I expect all real house lovers and even wannabe hipsters to be there...or risk missing out on one hell of a show.  Email guestlist@footworkbar.com to get your sorry ass on the guestlist.  Get ready for a heatstorm.

Larseration Nation

Chris Larsen, serious Toronto cat has been heating it up lately on the productions and shit.

Chris Larsen is a cat from the Toronto bit who makes and plays minimal techno that is quite dope, and someone who had seemingly gone under my radar until recently, when I saw him play at the hushlamb monthly at Detour Bar in Toronto.  Dude is solid, both as a person and as a tune-choosin party poppin selector.  He likes greasy beats, often with gully gutter talk vox cut in the mix.  Check out this exclusive for Studiofeed.com found on his Soundcloud.

Nick & Rose

Murr & Rosina: Killin shit like it's nobody's business.

I met some super special people today with Max the Fax to discuss a future collaboration for a late night event.  What made this meeting even more special is that both Max and I have been big fans of these two for quite some time, but only recently connected with them in person after some dialogue over the infamous Facebook.

The two people I speak of are Murr and Rosina, a Canadian couple who make wonderful music that we have been following for quite some time - - yet didn't even know were from our hometown of Toronto until quite recently.  I was a huge fan of their 2008 release "Fables and Fairytales" on Kuji Records which later was modified with Adam Marshall and did very well in 2009 with remixes by Deniz Kurtel through Crosstown Rebels.  Apparently Damian Lazarus heard the tune and immediately wanted it for his coveted Crosstown imprint.  "NA" (which stood for "Nick" and "Adam") had Rosina's A-grade vox on it, and the trio was responsible for shaking the worlds dancefloors for about two years straight.

aka: NA ft. Rosina - Fables & Fairytales (Original Mix)

NA ft. Rosina - Fables & Fairytales (Deniz Kurtel Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Nick Murray aka Murr is a nasty techno and house producer who has a number of releases on Adam Marshall's Berlin-based imprint New Kanada, and on other labels such as 53oTechno, Public Transit Records, Kuji, DNH (Nick Holders Old Label) and more.  Murr should be a lot bigger than he is, this guy seriously brings that grease - - I absolutely love this third Re-Edit by Marshall.

Murr - Noise In (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Murr - Stay (Adam Marshall Extended Re-Edit) >>> [BUY IT]

Rosina and Murr have another - - 3-person project - - together called LAL Forest, which releases really cool music that brings together many diffierent elements in music to create a completely unique fusion of sound unlike almost anything I have ever heard.  Check out and buy LAL music on their official site or iTunes.  Support people with heart and a love for what they do - - that is what we are all about.  Here are a few more samples of the great music these two souls create.

On March 17th Four Deep North residents Max the Fax, Sean Roman, Douglas Carter and I will have the extreme pleasure of playing with Murr & Rosina at their Official Release Party for their new "Best Dress" music video.  We are fully stoked on this development and cannot wait to be a part of this experience.  More info will be available shortly on our upcoming event page.

If you really love these sounds as much as us, please Support honest and amazing musicians by buying their music.  Much love!

TORONTO!! EDM FESTIVAL??

TORONTO ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL? Yup. And We Are Involved, Get Stoked. Click the picture for more information straight from the people at Studiofeed,

You heard us correctly.  Exciting, isn't it?  There is a movement happening here in Toronto, and Studiofeed is at the helm.  The community driven group has partnered up with other promoters and musicians in our great city to bring Toronto an Electronic Music Festival that has been really missing here despite some previous half-assed attempts.  The Deep North is one of the associated groups which was invited to take a part in this movement, and for this we are thankful.  We hope that this brings Torontos EDM community even closer together and that this becomes an annual event that the city can enjoy for years to come.  Big up to the Studiofeed Collective.

READ MORE HERE.

Here is a new tune by Spanish producer Falomir!  I just got the promo for this jam and was given permission to post a video by the label itself, so let's just say this is a new bit of music to say the least.  The tune is being released by Sonovivo, a new label put forward by German Wigbert Franze.   The new upstart imprint will be putting out hot House, Techno and Minimal music which has Jazz, Blues and percussive rhythms and ambient flair.  Read more about the new label here.

Heat Wave Side Walk

The following is a play by play account of my morning thus far.  Wake up, eat toast, open facebook, play the first soundcloud link that shows up in my news feed.  Nothing out of the ordinary here, But that god damn soundcloud link just blew my mind (insert gorey exploding head joke).  Anyway the song I discovered was composed and recorded in 1999 by a new friend of ours here at The Deep North - - Rob MacDonald. Though from what i have heard Rob Mcdonald (aka Broken Toys) is by no means new to the Toronto elctronic music scene and has stuck it out through thick and thin, supporting all sorts of projects, people, and more over the years.  I am honoured to seemingly have been the first person to play the soundcloud link and hope to see the play counts rise - - after all it deserves the time of many ears.  Big tune.

Without further adu i invite all you crazy techno crackers to light the fuse on this one.

You can find A FREE download of the track here: http://soundcloud.com/robmcdtv/beauty
